True Haiku

ob Chernow: a bullish futurist, who, in response to my “three attempts at haikus” in the September Olive, sent me a “true haiku.”

You only live twice
Once when you are born
And once when you look death in the face
After Matsuo Basho, a Japanese poet. 1644-1694. Or was this an “attempt at a haiku” by Ian Fleming in a novel by the same name? Or was it written James Bond? Or does it even matter?
