True Haiku
By Bob Chernow
B
ob Chernow: a bullish futurist, who, in response to my “three attempts at haikus” in the September Olive, sent me a “true haiku.”
You only live twice
Once when you are born
And once when you look death in the face
Once when you are born
And once when you look death in the face
After Matsuo Basho, a Japanese poet. 1644-1694. Or was this an “attempt at a haiku” by Ian Fleming in a novel by the same name? Or was it written James Bond? Or does it even matter?
